Valdez sits at the head of a deep fjord surrounded by the Chugach Mountains, which receive some of the heaviest snowfall in the world. Annual snowfall in the surrounding mountains regularly exceeds 300 inches. The town is the gateway to Prince William Sound, Columbia Glacier, and some of the most visually dramatic coastal mountain terrain anywhere in Alaska.
We provide full production services in Valdez and coordinate access to the surrounding environments by helicopter, boat, and ground transportation.
Extreme Snowfall
Valdez and the Thompson Pass corridor receive the highest measured snowfall in Alaska. For productions that need guaranteed deep snow environments, Valdez delivers volume that no other accessible Alaska location can match. Heliskiing operations here attract the best ski cinematographers in the world for a reason.
Prince William Sound
One of the most pristine marine environments in Alaska. Tidewater glaciers, sea otters, humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, and thousands of miles of uninhabited coastline. Accessible by charter boat from the Valdez harbor.
Columbia Glacier
One of the largest tidewater glaciers in North America. Active calving front with massive icebergs. Accessible by boat from Valdez. A premier glacier filming destination.
Heliskiing and Adventure Sports
Valdez is the heliskiing capital of Alaska. The surrounding mountains provide the steep terrain, deep snow, and dramatic backdrops that make this a world-class destination for adventure and extreme sports filming.
Scenic Highways
The Richardson Highway and Thompson Pass provide some of the most dramatic road-accessible mountain scenery in the state. Keystone Canyon, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horsetail Falls are all within minutes of town. Excellent for chase vehicle and automotive content.
Valdez Harbor and Small Boat Harbor
Working fishing harbor with commercial vessels, pleasure boats, and charter operations. Mountain backdrop directly behind the waterfront. Compact and filmable.
Thompson Pass and Keystone Canyon
High mountain pass with extreme snow accumulation. Keystone Canyon offers dramatic vertical rock walls with waterfalls cascading directly beside the highway. Stunning in both summer and winter.
Prince William Sound Coastline
Fjords, island passages, tidewater glaciers, and remote beaches accessible only by water. Multi-day marine charter productions staging from Valdez.
Surrounding Mountains
Chugach Range peaks accessible by helicopter for alpine, glacier, and heliskiing content. Some of the most vertical coastal mountain terrain on the continent.
Valdez is a small town with limited local crew and infrastructure. We coordinate crew travel from Anchorage (5-hour drive or short flight), stage equipment, arrange lodging and meals, manage marine vessel charters, and coordinate helicopter operations. For multi-day shoots, we set up full basecamp operations. Full service producer support available.

No more sitting on the sidelines. Stand out with compelling, story-driven visuals from the Last Frontier.
