Southeast Alaska looks and feels nothing like the rest of the state. This is not the wide-open tundra and glacial valleys of Southcentral and the Interior. Southeast is a thousand-mile archipelago of densely forested islands, narrow fjords, tidewater glaciers, and small coastal towns connected by ferry and floatplane rather than roads.
The visual palette is completely different. Lush green temperate rainforest. Mist hanging in mountain valleys. Humpback whales breaching in channels between islands. Totem poles in mossy clearings. Fishing harbors backed by snow-capped peaks. Waterfalls pouring directly into saltwater. This is the Alaska that cruise passengers see, and it's one of the most cinematic coastal environments on the planet.
Juneau
Alaska's capital city and busiest cruise port. Mendenhall Glacier, the Juneau Icefield, Tongass National Forest, whale watching waters, and a colorful downtown waterfront. The most developed production infrastructure in Southeast, with local crew, equipment, and helicopter access available.
Glacier Bay National Park
One of the most dramatic marine environments in the world. Massive tidewater glaciers, fjords, coastal brown bears, mountain goats, humpback whales, sea otters, and pristine wilderness. Commercial filming in Glacier Bay requires National Park Service permits and careful advance planning. We handle the full permitting process.
Sitka
Russian colonial architecture, Sitka National Historical Park with its totem trail, dramatic island geography, and some of the best coastal wildlife viewing in Southeast. A quieter, more intimate production environment than Juneau.
Skagway
Preserved gold rush downtown, the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, and mountain scenery that transitions from coastal to alpine within miles. Extremely compact and filmable. Popular cruise port with strong foot traffic for lifestyle and tourism content.
Ketchikan
Creek Street boardwalk, world-class totem pole collections at Saxman and Totem Bight, Misty Fjords National Monument, and a vibrant fishing harbor. The first port of call for most northbound cruise ships.
Haines
The Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve hosts the largest concentration of bald eagles in the world during fall salmon runs. Also a gateway to glacier-fed rivers, coastal mountains, and the Chilkat Valley. Accessible by road, ferry, and small aircraft.
The Inside Passage
The 1,000-mile marine corridor connecting Southeast Alaska's communities. Narrow channels between forested islands, whales feeding in tidal currents, icebergs drifting from glacier termini, and remote anchorages with no human presence. Filming on the Inside Passage requires vessel charters and marine logistics coordination.
Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm Fjords
Narrow, steep-walled fjords leading to active tidewater glaciers. Icebergs, waterfalls, harbor seals on ice floes, and dramatic confined-water navigation. Accessible by charter vessel from Juneau.
Temperate Rainforest
The Tongass National Forest is the largest temperate rainforest in North America. Moss-covered old-growth trees, fern-carpeted forest floors, and filtered light that creates a moody, atmospheric visual quality unlike anything else in Alaska.
Marine Wildlife
Humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, and some of the densest bald eagle populations on earth. Marine wildlife cinematography in Southeast Alaska is world-class and accessible from every major town.
Cultural Heritage
Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian communities with deep cultural traditions visible in totem poles, clan houses, and living cultural practices. Filming involving Alaska Native cultural content requires direct community engagement and cultural sensitivity. We facilitate those relationships.
Accessibility
Despite its remoteness, Southeast Alaska is well-connected. Juneau and Ketchikan have jet service from Seattle. The Alaska Marine Highway ferry system connects all major communities. Floatplanes and charter boats provide access to remote locations. You can be on a glacier in the morning and in a temperate rainforest by afternoon.
We provide full production services throughout the region. Local crew sourced from our Southeast network. Location scouting and permitting across US Forest Service, National Park Service, state, municipal, and private lands. Marine vessel and floatplane charters. Helicopter and drone aerials. Lodging and meal coordination in towns where options are limited. Weather and safety planning for a region where rain, wind, and marine conditions can shift rapidly.
For productions that need to operate across multiple Southeast ports or extend into other regions of the state, see our full Alaska production services overview.

No more sitting on the sidelines. Stand out with compelling, story-driven visuals from the Last Frontier.
