8 days, 5 ports, 40 cast and crew - the world's largest shipping company launched into the Alaskan market.

MSC Cruises Case Study

Alaska Production Company produced MSC Cruises' 2026 Alaska brand campaign aboard MSC Poesia, an eight-day shoot across Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Endicott Arm, and Victoria, BC, while the ship ran its regular passenger service. APC managed 40 cast and crew, two production units, and excursion filming with eleven local operators, from floatplanes over Misty Fjords to small boats in Endicott Arm.

The Challenge

A cruise itinerary gives each port one day. The ship departs on schedule whether the shot exists or not, so every scene had a single window and no reshoot option. The production also carried requirements most commercial shoots never touch: filming permits from five port authorities in two countries, federal authorization for National Forest land, drone permitting through MSC's London office, customs documentation for gear crossing into Canada and back, and maritime payroll compliance for crew working a foreign-flagged vessel. All of it aboard a ship running full passenger service, with nine cast members including children, and a delivery date tied to MSC's 2027 Alaska booking push.

The Approach

Alaska Production Company cleared every requirement before boarding: port permits in Seattle, Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Strait Point, and Victoria, USFS authorization for Mendenhall Glacier in the Tongass National Forest, and an ATA Carnet covering the full camera package through US and Canadian customs.

On the water, APC ran two production units against one shootboard: sea days for life-on-board coverage in suites, restaurants, pool decks, and lounges, port days for excursion filming with eleven local operators, floatplanes over Misty Fjords, Saxman Native Village, the Spasski River valley on Huna Totem land, Mendenhall Glacier, Taku Lodge, Endicott Arm by small boat, and Butchart Gardens in Victoria.

The Impact

APC captured 100% of the shootboard, held every call time across eight days and five ports, and shot every wardrobe look as planned. The full deliverable package arrived on schedule for MSC's 2027 Alaska booking season, and the production closed with zero safety incidents.
